PADLA (the Pennsylvania/Delaware/New Jersey Distance Learning Association) cordially invites you to immerse yourself in a blended virtual classroom to experience the latest in telepresence created by a partnership between a world-class academic institution and a world leader in technology. Attendees from both the academic and corporate worlds will experience first-hand this state-of-the art solution that conquers distance while creating an intimate learning environment. However, as we all know, technology is only as good as the people who are using it and proper preparation still remains the key to success. Presentations include:

"Wharton Telepresence: A Cutting-Edge Innovation in Blended Virtual Classroom Technology" Presented by Marko Jarymovych, IT Technical Director Public Technology Group in Wharton Computing, and Brandon Lodriguss, Innovation Group Project Director at Wharton

The Wharton School approached Cisco with a challenge: How can we leverage existing Telepresence technology to better connect and integrate a classroom experience on both the East and West coasts? After partnering to develop a unique solution, Wharton and Cisco launched a state-of-the-art Telepresence solution for the classroom in February 2013. This system offers the possibility of connecting classrooms on both campuses for some very interesting use cases. A presenter on either coast can place a Telepresence call to the other classroom and appear life-sized on a large movie screen in the front of the class. In the rear of both classrooms, two large screens show the students in the remote room. The audio and video are seamless and instantaneous, and there are mechanisms for sharing slides and other content via the system as well. As of the launch date, the system is comprised of a 60 person classroom in San Francisco, a 55-person classroom in Philadelphia, and a single-presenter “Broadcast Room” also in Philadelpha.
